Raipur, 13 April 2025: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today attended the oath-taking and felicitation ceremony of the newly appointed Chairman of the Chhattisgarh State Forest Development Corporation, Shri Ramshevak Paikra, in Nava Raipur.
He extended his heartfelt congratulations to Shri Paikra on taking up the new responsibility. Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Dr. Raman Singh, was also present and conveyed his best wishes to Shri Paikra.Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister stated that Shri Ramshevak Paikra is a senior political leader with vast experience in public life. He has efficiently served in various significant roles and is known for his sensitivity and grassroots-level work, especially concerning tribal and forest-dwelling communities. His appointment as the head of the Forest Development Corporation is expected to benefit these communities greatly.The Chief Minister highlighted that approximately 44% of Chhattisgarh’s land is covered with forests, which play a crucial role not only in biodiversity and environmental conservation but also in preserving tribal culture and providing livelihood. He mentioned several government initiatives for the welfare of forest dwellers, including the increase in remuneration for tendu leaf collectors from ₹4,000 to ₹5,500. He added that this year, the state has set a target to plant and distribute around 40 million saplings and allocated a budget of ₹310 crore for the restoration of degraded forests. He also referenced Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in the Name of Mother), under which more than 35 million trees have been planted in the state so far.Also present at the event were Agriculture Minister Shri Ramvichar Netam, Forest Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, MLA Shri Purandar Mishra, former Assembly Speaker Shri Gaurishankar Agrawal, chairpersons of various commissions, officials and employees of the Forest Development Corporation and Forest Department, and a large number of distinguished citizens
