Raipur, April 8, 2025: On the occasion of World Banjara Day, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai participated in the Grand Banjara Mahakumbh organized by the All India Banjara Seva Sangh Chhattisgarh at Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium in Raipur. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the Banjara community has a rich and glorious history, having been associated with trade since ancient times. He also highlighted the community’s significant contribution to India’s freedom struggle.The Banjara community honored the Chief Minister by dressing him in traditional Banjara attire and presenting him with a book published by the community. The women of the Banjara community gave a beautiful performance of the traditional “Ladi” dance.
CM Sai inaugurated the event by offering garlands and lighting a lamp in front of the images of Banjara deities Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Saint Sewalal Maharaj. He extended warm greetings and best wishes to the community on the occasion of World Banjara Day.He shared historical insights, remembering the legendary Lakhhi Shah Ji of the Banjara community, who is said to have owned over two lakh oxen and led large caravans that traveled from Rawalpindi to Kabul and Kandahar. Despite his immense wealth, he remained humble and dedicated it to the welfare of others. Remarkably, he even resisted Aurangzeb’s army at the age of 95.CM Sai said he shares a close bond with the Banjara community. Many villages near his hometown, such as Madanpur, Pathalgaon, and Hathguda, are home to Banjara families. He noted that the entire village of Hathguda is engaged in catering work and is often invited to serve at nearby events. He also mentioned that the town of Basna in Chhattisgarh has a significant Banjara population. Such grand events help bring the community together and strengthen unity.The Chief Minister also highlighted key achievements of his government, including the swift implementation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantees. In the very first cabinet meeting, approval was given for 18 lakh PM housing units. Under the ‘Mahtari Vandan’ scheme, 70 lakh women are receiving financial support. The government is purchasing rice at ₹3100 per quintal, and tendu leaf collectors are being paid ₹5500 per standard sack.He proudly mentioned that Chhattisgarh is considered the maternal home of Lord Shri Ram. Through the ‘Ram Lalla Darshan Yojana’, over 22,000 devotees from Chhattisgarh have visited Ayodhya. A new pilgrimage scheme has also been launched.
