Chhattisgarh to Play a Leading Role in Effective Implementation of New Laws – Vishnu Deo Sai

Home Minister Emphasizes 100% Implementation of New Laws in the StateCM Vishnu Deo Sai Briefs on State’s PreparednessDiscussions Held on Bastar Development and Naxal EradicationNew Delhi, April 21, 2025 – Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah today at the North Block in New Delhi. A review meeting, chaired by Shri Shah, was held to assess the implementation of three new criminal laws in the state. The meeting also covered strategies for the eradication of Naxalism, comprehensive development of Bastar, and strengthening of the state’s security and justice systems. Chhattisgarh’s Home Minister Shri Vijay Sharma and several senior officials from the Union Home Ministry and the state government were also present.The discussion focused on the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. The implementation status of various new provisions related to police, prisons, judiciary, prosecution, and forensics was reviewed.CM Sai informed the meeting that Chhattisgarh has completed both administrative and technical preparations for the effective enforcement of the new criminal laws. The state has developed and implemented 27 types of SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and guidelines. Around 37,385 police personnel have been trained, and courts, police stations, and jails have been equipped with e-evidence and video conferencing systems. So far, 53,981 FIRs have been registered under the new laws, with charge sheets filed in about 50% of the cases.A special strategy for a permanent solution to the Naxal problem was also discussed. The CM noted that several wanted Naxals have been killed, arrested, or have surrendered during recent operations. Initiatives like the Niyad Nelanar Scheme, Bastar Olympics, women’s safety centers, and the development of homestay and tourism infrastructure in tribal areas have positively impacted youth engagement with the mainstream.The Chief Minister further stated that the state government is committed to making Chhattisgarh Naxal-free by 2026 and is working actively to develop Bastar as a major tourism hub in India.He assured that Chhattisgarh would fully adhere to the directives of the central government and take a leading role in implementing this national legal reform initiative effectively.Commending the efforts of the Chhattisgarh government, the Union Home Minister stressed the need for swift and complete implementation of the new laws across the state. He emphasized that the goal of the new laws is to make the justice process simpler, faster, and more citizen-centric.Senior officials present at the meeting included Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, DGP Shri Arun Deo Gautam, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Manoj Kumar Pingua, IG Shri Sushil Dwivedi, Principal Secretary to CM Shri Subodh Kumar Singh, Secretary Shri Rahul Bhagat, Principal Secretary Law Shri Rajneesh Srivastava, and Home Secretary Smt. Neha Champawat, among others.
