No Shortage of Alternative Fertilizers in Chhattisgarh

One Lakh Bottles of Nano DAP Being Stored in Cooperative Societies

Chhattisgarh Government’s Effective Initiative to Address DAP Shortage

Raipur, July 5, 2025 – In view of the demand for various chemical fertilizers during the Kharif 2025 season, the Chhattisgarh government has not only made robust arrangements in advance but is also continuously monitoring the supply, storage, and distribution of fertilizers. As a result, the state is maintaining a strong position in terms of fertilizer availability and distribution. To address the shortfall in DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate), the state government has ensured the availability of alternative fertilizers such as NPK, Single Super Phosphate (SSP), and Nano DAP, thereby safeguarding the interests of farmers. So far, 12.27 lakh metric tonnes of various fertilizers have been stored in the state, ensuring timely and adequate supply for the Kharif season.

For Kharif 2025, Chhattisgarh had initially set a target to distribute 14.62 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers, including 7.12 lakh MT of urea, 3.10 lakh MT of DAP, 1.80 lakh MT of NPK, 60,000 MT of potash, and 2 lakh MT of SSP. Currently, 12.27 lakh MT have already been stored. Due to a nationwide shortage in DAP supply, the distribution targets were revised, with significant increases in alternative fertilizers like NPK and SSP—raising the total fertilizer distribution target to 17.18 lakh MT.

So far, 5.63 lakh MT of urea have been stored, and 3.76 lakh MT distributed. An additional 1.86 lakh MT is currently available for farmers. It is important to note that urea is applied to paddy crops in three stages: 30% at the time of sowing or transplanting, the second dose 3–4 weeks later during tillering, and the final dose 7–8 weeks later at the panicle initiation stage. Accordingly, urea is supplied in phases throughout the season until September.

In response to the national DAP import shortfall, the Chhattisgarh government took timely action by increasing the NPK target to 4.90 lakh MT and SSP to 3.53 lakh MT. Presently, NPK and SSP stock levels have exceeded their targets by 11,000 MT and 54,000 MT respectively. This surplus will compensate for the phosphorus content that would have been supplied by 23,600 MT of DAP.

According to the supply plan for July, Chhattisgarh is set to receive 2.33 lakh MT of fertilizers, including 1.25 lakh MT of urea, 48,850 MT of DAP, 34,380 MT of NPK, 10,000 MT of potash, and 76,000 MT of SSP. By the end of July, DAP stock in the state is expected to reach 1.95 lakh MT. To avert shortages, an additional stock of 25,000 MT of SSP and 40,000 MT of NPK is planned. Furthermore, one lakh bottles of Nano DAP are being stored in cooperative societies, which will substitute for 25,000 MT of conventional DAP.

Since April, the government has actively promoted the use of alternative fertilizers by distributing posters and pamphlets in cooperative societies and procurement centers. Farmers have been educated about alternatives to DAP. Agricultural scientists and department officials have also trained farmers on the scientific use of NPK, SSP, and Nano DAP during the “Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan.” Through efficient management, the Chhattisgarh government is ensuring the uninterrupted supply of fertilizers for Kharif 2025.
