NPK and SSP Fertilizer Targets Increased by 4.62 Lakh Metric Tons
CM Assures Farmers There Is No Need to Worry
Fertilizer Distribution Target for Current Kharif Season Revised to 17.18 Lakh Metric Tons
Raipur, July 3, 2025:
Due to reduced DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate) imports at the national level, Chhattisgarh’s DAP supply for the current Kharif season has been affected. However, the state government has proactively implemented strong alternative measures to tackle the situation. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai assured farmers that there is no need for concern, as adequate alternative fertilizers—namely NPK and SSP—are being made available through cooperative societies.
To compensate for the DAP shortfall, the state has increased the distribution target of NPK (20:20:013 and 12:32:13) by 3.10 lakh metric tons and SSP by 1.80 lakh metric tons. With this adjustment, the total fertilizer distribution target for Kharif 2025 has been raised from 14.62 lakh metric tons to 17.18 lakh metric tons.
CM Vishnu Deo Sai emphasized that farmers can achieve good yields using these alternatives, as recommended by agricultural scientists from Indira Gandhi Agricultural University and the Department of Agriculture. He also stated that the availability of fertilizers and seeds as per farmers’ demand is being closely monitored, and addressing farmers’ issues remains the top priority of the government.
Revised Fertilizer Distribution Targets for Kharif 2025:
Originally, the Department of Agriculture had set the following targets:
Urea: 7.12 lakh metric tons
DAP: 3.10 lakh metric tons
NPK: 1.80 lakh metric tons
MOP: 60,000 metric tons
SSP: 2 lakh metric tons
Given the DAP shortage, the revised targets are:
DAP reduced to 1.03 lakh metric tons
NPK increased to 4.90 lakh metric tons
SSP increased to 3.53 lakh metric tons
Urea and MOP targets remain unchanged
As a result, the overall fertilizer target has risen to 17.18 lakh metric tons.
Expert Advice on Fertilizer Use:
Agricultural experts note that the DAP shortage can be effectively managed by using other fertilizers in appropriate ratios. Essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash are crucial for crop productivity. For example, DAP provides 23 kg of phosphorus and 9 kg of nitrogen per bag. An equivalent combination of three bags of SSP and one bag of urea can supply sufficient phosphorus, calcium, nitrogen, and sulfur to plants. SSP also supports root development and enhances crop quality and yield. Farmers are also encouraged to use bio-fertilizers to bridge the gap.
Fertilizer Stock Status:
According to the Department of Agriculture, 12.13 lakh metric tons of various fertilizers have been stocked for Kharif 2025, out of which 7.29 lakh metric tons have already been distributed. Currently, 4.84 lakh metric tons of fertilizers are available for distribution across the cooperative and private sectors in the state.
