Raipur, July 1, 2025 – Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has emphasized the need for a special strategy to uplift the lives of traditional artisans engaged in weaving, embroidery, handicrafts, and clay art. He stated that revitalizing the livelihoods of those who have been engaged in these crafts for generations and enhancing their incomes is a top priority for the state government.

The Chief Minister chaired a detailed review meeting of the activities and schemes under the Village Industries Department today at the Mahanadi Bhavan Secretariat. During the meeting, there was an extensive discussion on promoting traditional artisans, weavers, and products related to silk, handicrafts, khadi, handloom, and clay art, with the aim of improving their standard of living.

CM Sai sought detailed inputs on all components of the department and noted the immense employment potential in these sectors. He instructed the formulation of a comprehensive and integrated action plan covering training, financial support, modern technology, and marketing, to create sustainable employment opportunities.

He underlined the importance of elevating Chhattisgarh’s tradition and expertise in silk production, Kosa fabric, and handloom weaving to new heights. He mentioned that the Indian Handloom Technology Institute operating in the state could help meet the demand for skilled artisans, and called for concrete steps to ensure its effective functioning. He also directed full utilization of the budget allocated for training, so artisans receive high-quality skill development.

CM Sai said Chhattisgarh is home to highly skilled traditional artisans and weavers, who have for generations been crafting beautiful and appealing handmade items. These products are widely admired by the public.

He instructed that efforts be made to connect these products with larger state and national markets. He also recommended seeking expert support to actively explore opportunities for online sales and exports.

He further directed that the Unity Mall should be constructed on time and with high standards, to provide a dedicated platform for state-made products and branding, thereby showcasing Chhattisgarh’s traditional identity on national and international stages. The CM also emphasized the need to boost silk production in the state through the use of new technologies to improve both output and quality. This, he noted, would strengthen the silk industry and generate more employment.

“We can enrich the lives of our traditional artisans and weavers only by respecting and recognizing their art,” the Chief Minister concluded.

Present on the occasion were Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the CM Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh, CM’s Secretary Mr. Rahul Bhagat, Village Industries Secretary Mr. Shyam Dhawde, Handicrafts & Clay Art Board Managing Director Mr. J.P.
