Case Summary:
On 23.06.2025, police received information that a tin trunk was found abandoned near Diprapara drain behind Wonderland Water Park in Indraprastha Colony. The trunk emitted a foul odor. A joint team from the Anti-Crime & Cyber Unit and DD Nagar Police discovered a male corpse inside a red suitcase within the trunk. The body was covered in cement and had its legs tied. An FIR was registered, and investigation began.
IG Raipur Range Amresh Mishra and SSP Dr. Lal Umed Singh took the case seriously, directing senior officers to identify the unknown deceased and arrest the culprits. Five investigation teams were formed. They preserved the crime scene, gathered CCTV footage, conducted forensic inspections, and deployed informants.
A breakthrough came when CCTV footage showed three men and one woman loading a large trunk into an Alto car from Block D of Indraprastha Colony. The car’s registration led police to Ankit Upadhyay, who had bought the car using a fake Aadhaar card. A tin trunk matching the one found at the scene was traced to a shop where a couple had bought it on 22.06.25 using online payment traced to Shivani Sharma.
The trunk was dropped off at Room D/321, rented by Ankit and Shivani a week earlier. They had fled to Delhi after the murder. Based on flight details, both were intercepted at Delhi IGI Airport after landing and were taken into custody.
Confession:
During interrogation, Ankit revealed that he was a lawyer and property dealer. The victim, Kishore Paikra, had sold a house in 2015–16 but later filed a legal dispute. Ankit exploited this by claiming he could retrieve the property via court. Over time, he collected large sums from Paikra, including ₹30 lakhs from the sale of another property, which he used for personal purposes.
When Paikra began demanding his money back persistently, Ankit and Shivani plotted his murder. Ankit made a fake Aadhaar card with a Korba address and bought an old Alto car. On 21.06.2025, he lured Paikra to their rented room in Indraprastha Colony. There, with Shivani’s help, Ankit strangled him and slit his throat.
That night, they cleaned the scene and stuffed the body in a red trolley bag, sprayed perfume on it, and shut it inside the room. The next day, they bought a tin trunk, filled it with the bagged body, covered it with cement, and sealed the trunk.
On 23.06.25, unable to carry the heavy trunk alone, they called acquaintances Suryakant Yadu and Vinay Yadu, who agreed to help dispose of the body. All four moved the trunk, disguised with scarves, placed it in the Alto car, and dumped it in the deserted spot. Later, the Alto was sent to a local garage for denting/painting to destroy evidence.
The couple fled to Delhi the same night but were apprehended upon landing.
