Raipur, April 3, 2025 – The Department of Education at Pragati College, Chaube Colony, Raipur, organized a guest lecture on “Gender Sensitivity.” The keynote speaker for the event was Dr. Swati Srivastava, Principal of Sandipani Academy, Achoti (Murmunda), District Durg.The event commenced with the traditional Saraswati Vandana and lamp lighting ceremony. College Principal Dr. Soumya Nair addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of gender equality in fostering the growth of society and families.Dr. Swati Srivastava engaged with students, presenting real-life examples of gender bias, such as predefined roles in sports, the association of blue with boys and pink with girls, and similar stereotypes. Quoting Nelson Mandela, she stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon to change the world.”She also discussed the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020-21 and its emphasis on inclusive education in Chhattisgarh, particularly for tribal communities. Citing the ASER 2022 report, she highlighted India’s literacy rate at 74% and Chhattisgarh’s at 76%.The lecture covered key aspects such as gender-neutral facilities, a safe school environment, teacher roles, availability of restrooms, uniforms, and equal opportunities in sports. Dr. Srivastava also shed light on UNESCO-led initiatives and government schemes like the “Vigyan Jyoti Yojana” in Chhattisgarh, discussing their impact and outcomes.She concluded the session with a quote from Paulo Freire: “Education is freedom.”The event was successfully conducted under the leadership of College Principal Dr. Soumya Nair, Administrator Ms. Jyoti Thakur, and Head of the Education Department Dr. K.N. Gajpal. Faculty members and students played a commendable role in making the event a success. The session was moderated by Ms. Chinmayi Das, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Mrs. Gunjan Sharma.
