Raipur, 3 July 2025 – Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh is moving towards a significant milestone in the field of biotechnology. With support from the Government of India and the State Government, a Biotechnology Park project is being established in Raipur. As part of the first phase of this project, a state-of-the-art Biotech Incubation Centre will be constructed within the campus of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.
A tripartite agreement has been signed between the Government of India, the State Government, and Indira Gandhi Agricultural University for setting up this centre. The implementation agency for the project is the Chhattisgarh Biotechnology Promotion Society, operating under the Department of Agriculture and Biotechnology.
The main objective of this Biotech Incubation Centre is to harness biological resources of the state while promoting innovation and a startup ecosystem. Youth will receive training, technical support, and infrastructure to establish biotechnology-based industries. The centre will feature 23 modern laboratories equipped with BSL-4 level biosafety facilities, along with two central instrumentation and analytical testing labs.
The centre will facilitate operations for 17 micro and small enterprises and 6 large-scale industries. A total of 23 startup offices will be set up, where companies can operate for up to three years. Special priority will be given to startups in agricultural and pharmaceutical biotechnology.
On the Chief Minister’s directive, a revised administrative approval of ₹20.55 crore has been granted for the construction and furnishing of the Biotech Incubation Centre.
This initiative by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is expected to position Chhattisgarh as a leading state in the biotechnology sector. It will not only bridge the gap between research and industry but also open up new avenues for employment and entrepreneurship. This project holds scientific significance and is poised to give a new direction to Chhattisgarh’s economy and the future of its youth.
