Chhattisgarh Government Ensures Strong Alternative Arrangements to Address DAP Shortage

Target for NPK and SSP Fertilizers Increased by 4.62 Lakh Metric Tonnes
CM Assures: “Farmers Need Not Worry”
Fertilizer Distribution Target for Kharif Season Raised to 17.18 Lakh Metric Tonnes

Raipur, July 3, 2025 – Due to a decline in DAP fertilizer imports at the national level, the Chhattisgarh government has devised a robust alternative strategy to maintain fertilizer supply during the ongoing Kharif season. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has assured farmers that there is no need to worry about the shortage of DAP (Di-Ammonium Phosphate). Instead, the state is ensuring the adequate availability of alternatives like NPK and SSP fertilizers through cooperative societies.

To compensate for the DAP shortfall, the government has increased the distribution target for NPK (20:20:0:13 and 12:32:13) by 3.10 lakh metric tonnes and SSP (Single Super Phosphate) by 1.80 lakh metric tonnes. Efficient storage and distribution mechanisms have also been put in place. With this increase, the total fertilizer distribution target for the Kharif season has risen from 14.62 lakh metric tonnes to 17.18 lakh metric tonnes.

Chief Minister Sai emphasized that farmers can achieve excellent yields by using these alternatives as recommended by agricultural scientists from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya and experts from the Agriculture Department. He assured that cooperative societies are being closely monitored to ensure the timely availability of fertilizers and seeds as per farmers’ demand. Solving farmers’ issues remains a top priority for the government.

Revised Fertilizer Targets for Kharif 2025:

The original target set by the Agriculture Department for Kharif 2025 was 14.62 lakh metric tonnes, including:

Urea – 7.12 lakh MT

DAP – 3.10 lakh MT

NPK – 1.80 lakh MT

MOP – 60,000 MT

SSP – 2.00 lakh MT

Due to the DAP shortage, the target has been revised:

DAP reduced to 1.03 lakh MT

NPK increased to 4.90 lakh MT

SSP increased to 3.53 lakh MT

Urea and MOP targets remain unchanged

As a result, the overall fertilizer target has now increased to 17.18 lakh metric tonnes.

Agricultural Expert Advice:

Experts state that the deficiency of DAP can be effectively addressed by using a combination of other fertilizers that supply essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash. For example, DAP contains 23 kg of phosphorus and 9 kg of nitrogen per bag. As an alternative, using three bags of SSP along with one bag of urea can provide adequate phosphorus, calcium, nitrogen, and sulfur, benefiting plant growth, root development, and yield quality. Farmers are also encouraged to use bio-fertilizers to supplement nutrient needs.

Current Fertilizer Availability:

According to the Agriculture Department, 12.13 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers have been stored for Kharif 2025. Out of this, 7.29 lakh metric tonnes have already been distributed to farmers. Currently, 4.84 lakh metric tonnes of fertilizers are available for distribution through cooperative and private channels across the state.
