Rail Development to Boost Tourism, Trade, Industry, and Employment
Raipur, June 27, 2025:
With the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh is moving steadily toward the vision of a Developed India and Developed Chhattisgarh. To boost the state’s economy, several new railway projects have been approved. Between 1853 and 2014 (over 161 years), only 1,100 route kilometers of railway lines were laid in Chhattisgarh. However, under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s leadership, the railway network is expected to double to 2,200 route kilometers by 2030.
In the Union Budget 2025–26, Chhattisgarh has been allocated ₹6,925 crore for railway projects. Currently, railway development projects worth ₹47,000 crore are in progress in the state with central assistance. The state has received two new Vande Bharat trains—Raipur–Visakhapatnam and Raipur–Nagpur—and has also decided to conduct a metro train survey. It’s notable that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a zonal railway office was sanctioned in Bilaspur.
Completion of these projects will significantly enhance rail infrastructure in the state and open up vast opportunities in tourism, trade, industry, and employment. These developments will accelerate Chhattisgarh’s socio-economic growth.
