Kothagudem–Kirandul Rail Line Survey Accelerated: LiDAR Technology Being Used
Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur Districts to Get Rail Connectivity
Raipur, June 26, 2025:
The pace of development in one of the most challenging regions of the country – the Bastar region – is gaining momentum. The final location survey (FLS) for the proposed 160.33 km long new railway line from Kothagudem (Telangana) to Kirandul (Chhattisgarh) is now in its final stage after receiving approval from the Central Government. Out of this, 138.51 km will pass through various areas of Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-affected districts like Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur, which have so far remained deprived of railway connectivity.
This project will not only ease transportation but also bring transformative socio-economic development to these regions.
The railway survey is being conducted using advanced LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology. The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, is specially monitoring this railway project, considering it highly significant for both internal security and regional development.
The Indian Railways has expressed special gratitude to the Government of Chhattisgarh and Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai, whose guidance and coordination have helped accelerate the survey process once again. This railway line is expected to become a symbol of security, inclusion, and prosperity for the Bastar region in the near future.
