Inspiring Journey Towards Self-Reliance for the Youth of Dantewada Entrepreneurship Training at IIM Transforms Lives

Raipur, 16 June 2025 – A new ray of hope has emerged in the lives of the youth of Dantewada, who once faced countless challenges. This transformation has come through a unique and unprecedented initiative, driven by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur, the Dantewada District Administration, and the Government of Chhattisgarh.

On 13 June 2025, the second batch of the Entrepreneurship Certificate Program concluded at IIM Raipur. But more than just certificates were distributed—this event gave wings to the dreams of 50 selected youths from Dantewada. Over the course of this two-month residential program, these participants were given in-depth education on various aspects of industry, business, and innovation.

Once living in uncertainty and with limited opportunities, these young individuals can now clearly envision their entrepreneurial dreams. Rakesh Yadav from Dantewada, a participant of the program, shared that the training taught him how even the forest produce like mahua and tamarind could become the foundation of livelihood. “Now I don’t just dream—I’m moving towards realizing them,” he said.

Participants like Abhishek Gupta from Kirandul, Tejaswi Kumar from Bijapur, and Neelam Pandey expressed how the IIM training has been a turning point in their lives. Shilpa Kumari from Bacheli noted that they not only learned how to start a business but also understood how to use their region’s natural wealth to become self-reliant. These youths, once constrained by a lack of resources, are now filled with confidence thanks to the entrepreneurship training.

The success of this initiative owes much to the proactive role of the Dantewada District Administration. The vision and consistent guidance of Collector Mr. Kunal Dudawat made this dream a reality. The administration not only identified the youth but also made it possible for them to train at an institution like IIM Raipur—proving that with a shift in mindset, circumstances can change.

From 23 April to 13 June, IIM Raipur didn’t just train these youths; it ignited the spark of leadership and innovation within them. Practical lessons in business planning, marketing, branding, value addition, and digital tools were provided to prepare them comprehensively.

Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai personally met with the trainees during the program to encourage them. He remarked that the youth of Bastar possess immense energy and, with the right direction and training, they can not only uplift themselves but also inspire the entire state. His approachable, practical, and motivational leadership infused the participants with new confidence.

This training program is not just a government scheme—it is the foundation of Bastar’s future. Once known for struggle and unrest, the region is now witnessing the emergence of mahua-based industries, tamarind processing units, and local tourism ventures. This is not just the story of 50 youths from Dantewada—it is the story of a transforming Bastar, rising above its negative image and becoming a symbol of entrepreneurship, self-reliance, and inclusive development.

The joint effort of the district administration and IIM Raipur has proven that with clear intent and the right guidance, every obstacle can be turned into an opportunity.
