Raipur, 12 May 2025: Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai conducted a detailed review of the Water Resources Department today at the CM’s residence office, focusing on strengthening the state’s irrigation infrastructure. He emphasized the need to maintain and repair existing irrigation projects and instructed senior officials to conduct regular field visits to ensure optimal use of water for agriculture and minimize wastage.

The Chief Minister reviewed the water storage capacity of all dams, current irrigation status, and the progress of upcoming projects. He stressed the use of modern technologies to reduce water loss during canal-based transportation. To enhance water-use efficiency, CM Sai directed officials to prepare an action plan for underground pipeline systems. He also emphasized bridging the gap between the designed irrigation capacity and the actual irrigated area.

Special instructions were given to expedite pending irrigation projects in the Bastar and Sarguja divisions, which have remained incomplete for years. The Chief Minister directed that all ongoing major projects be completed swiftly so that farmers can benefit on time. He also asked officials to promptly prepare proposals for seeking financial assistance from the Government of India for large-scale projects.

Furthermore, the Chief Minister instructed the department to draft proposals for new projects in the 26 development blocks declared as critical or semi-critical in terms of groundwater availability.

On this occasion, Water Resources Minister Mr. Kedar Kashyap reiterated the need for timely completion of large-scale irrigation projects. Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Mr. Rajesh Sukumar Toppo, briefed the Chief Minister on departmental activities and provided updates on ongoing and proposed irrigation schemes.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Singh, Special Secretary (Finance) Mrs. Sheetal Shashwat Verma, Chief Engineer Mr. Indrajit Uike, and other senior officials from the Water Resources Department.
