Modern Health Facilities Reach Rural Areas Through ECRP and NABARD Schemes

Raipur, 2 July 2025 – The Chhattisgarh government has taken significant steps to strengthen preparedness for pandemics like COVID-19 and to ensure access to quality healthcare services for the public. Under the Emergency COVID Response and Health System Preparedness Package (ECRP), additional isolation wards have been approved in 571 health centers across the state, including 62 Community Health Centers (CHCs), 385 Sub-Health Centers, and 124 Primary Health Centers (PHCs). Out of these, construction of 422 buildings has been completed, while 141 wards are under rapid construction. These isolation wards not only serve as future-ready health infrastructure but are also currently enhancing the overall healthcare system.
It is noteworthy that extensive development of isolation facilities has also been undertaken through the NABARD-funded scheme. Under this initiative, 20-bed isolation wards have been set up in 25 district hospitals and 10-bed wards in 170 community health centers. These facilities were constructed during the COVID-19 pandemic for the treatment of isolated patients. In the absence of a pandemic now, these buildings are being innovatively repurposed. Some are being used as secure storage spaces for medical equipment and medicines, while others are serving as training centers or meeting halls. These isolation structures have significantly boosted the operational efficiency of healthcare institutions. Their multipurpose usage has made work easier for health staff and improved emergency preparedness capabilities.
According to health department officials, the isolation ward at Ratanpur Community Health Center has not yet been handed over due to technical reasons. The necessary procedures will be completed soon, and it will be integrated into the healthcare services.
All of these isolation wards have been designed in a way that allows them to be activated at short notice if needed. This initiative by the state government is a major step toward strengthening, empowering, and future-proofing Chhattisgarh’s healthcare system.
