To boost the state\u2019s economy, several new railway projects have been approved. Between 1853 and 2014 (over 161 years), only 1,100 route kilometers of railway lines were laid in Chhattisgarh. However, under Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s leadership, the railway network is expected to double to 2,200 route kilometers by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Union Budget 2025\u201326, Chhattisgarh has been allocated \u20b96,925 crore for railway projects. Currently, railway development projects worth \u20b947,000 crore are in progress in the state with central assistance. The state has received two new Vande Bharat trains\u2014Raipur\u2013Visakhapatnam and Raipur\u2013Nagpur\u2014and has also decided to conduct a metro train survey. It\u2019s notable that during the tenure of former Prime Minister Late Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a zonal railway office was sanctioned in Bilaspur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Completion of these projects will significantly enhance rail infrastructure in the state and open up vast opportunities in tourism, trade, industry, and employment. These developments will accelerate Chhattisgarh\u2019s socio-economic growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">World-Class Railway Stations<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, 32 railway stations in Chhattisgarh are being upgraded with world-class facilities. Recently, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated redeveloped stations at Ambikapur, Urkura, Bhilai, Bhanupratappur, and Dongargarh under this scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of \u20b91,680 crore is being invested in the redevelopment of 32 stations, including major stations like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bilaspur (\u20b9435 crore)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raipur (\u20b9463 crore)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Durg (\u20b9456 crore)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stations being redeveloped include Bhatapara, Bhilai Power House, Tilda Neora, Bilha, Balod, Dalli Rajhara, Hathbandh, Sarona, Maroda, Mandir Hasaud, Nipania, Bhilai Nagar, Raigarh, Baradwar, Champa, Naila, Janjgir, Akaltara, Korba, Uslapur, Pendra Road, Baikunthpur Road, Mahasamund, Jagdalpur, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ongoing Railway Projects in Chhattisgarh<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Major projects under implementation (total worth \u20b947,000 crore):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rajnandgaon\u2013Nagpur 3rd Line: 228 km (48 km in Chhattisgarh), Cost: \u20b93,544.25 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bilaspur\u2013Jharsuguda 4th Line: 206 km (153 km in Chhattisgarh), Cost: \u20b92,135.34 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kharsia\u2013Dharamjaigarh New Line: 162.5 km, Cost: \u20b93,438.39 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gaurela\u2013Pendra Road\u2013Gevra Road Project: 156.81 km, Cost: \u20b94,970.11 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gauge Conversion (Kendri\u2013Dhamtari &amp; Abhanpur\u2013Rajim): 67.20 km, Cost: \u20b9544 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Boridand\u2013Ambikapur Doubling: 80 km, Cost: \u20b9776 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chirmiri\u2013Nagpur New Halt Line: 17 km, Cost: \u20b9622.34 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New Projects Approved in Bastar Region<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Ministry of Railways has approved the Raughat\u2013Jagdalpur new railway line (140 km), with an estimated cost of \u20b93,513.11 crore. This is seen as a milestone in the economic and industrial development of the Bastar region. The project is expected to promote travel, tourism, trade, and job creation and play a vital role in combating Naxalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the Kottavalasa\u2013Kirandul (KK) Line Doubling is progressing rapidly. Out of the 446 km total length, 170 km lies in Chhattisgarh, and 148 km of doubling has already been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur to Join Railway Network<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A new railway line from Kothagudem (Telangana) to Kirandul (160.33 km) is being planned. The final location survey is in its final stage. Out of this, 138.51 km will pass through Chhattisgarh\u2019s Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur districts\u2014regions so far without any railway connectivity. This line is expected to dramatically improve transportation and socio-economic development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">New Projects in Survey Stage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Final-stage surveys and DPR preparation are underway for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ambikapur\u2013Barwadih Line: 200 km, \u20b99,718 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kharsia\u2013New Raipur\u2013Parmalakasa Line: 278 km, \u20b97,854 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Raughat\u2013Jagdalpur Line: 140 km, \u20b93,513 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sardega\u2013Bhalumara Line: 37.24 km, \u20b91,282 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dharamjaigarh\u2013Pathalgaon\u2013Lohardaga Line: 301 km, \u20b916,834 crore<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chhattisgarh Railway Corporation Project<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Chhattisgarh government has allocated \u20b9300 crore for a new Katghora\u2013Dongargarh railway line, which will help reduce freight congestion on the Nagpur\u2013Jharsuguda route.
